Windows 95/98 Dialer Setup

Use the setting below to configure your Internet connection for Windows 95/95.

DIAL UP NETWORKING

1. Click the Windows Start button, select Programs, then accessories. If there is a program called Dial-up Networking, skip to "Installing TCP/IP". If you did not have Dial-up Networking in the accessories menu, go to the Windows Start button, click settings, choose Control panel.
   
   
2. Double-click on Add/Remove Programs.
   
   
3. Click on the Windows Setup tab.
   
   
4. Double-click on Communications.
   
   
5. Be sure that Dial-up Networking is checked.
   
   
6. Click on the ok button, click okay again.
   
   
7. I f prompted, insert your Windows95 disk.
   
   
8. If prompted, for Computer Name, Workgroup, or Description, use your username, Comteck, and your real name respectively.
   
   
9. If prompted, restart your computer.

INSTALLING THE TCP/IP PROTOCOL

1. Click on the Windows Start button, click settings, and then click Control Panel. Double-click on the Network icon. You should have a list of installed network protocols here.
   
   
2. If you have TCP/IP skip to "Configuring TCP/IP"
   
   
3. Click on the Add button.
   
   
4. Double-click on Protocol.
   
   
5. In left column choose Microsoft.
   
   
6. In the right column double-click TCP/IP
   
   
7. You should now see a list of installed components.
   
   
8. Now proceed to "Configuring TCP/IP".

CONFIGURING TCP/IP

1. Click the Windows Start button, then Settings, then Control Panel. Double-click the Network icon.
   
   
2. Double-click on TCP/IP.
   
   
3. You should see 6 tabs.
   
   
4. Click on the WINS Configuration tab and put a dot in disable WINS.
   
   
5. Click on the DNS Configuration tab and put a dot in Enable DNS.
   
   
6. In the host field put your user name in lower case letters.
   
   
7. In the domain field put in comteck.com
   
   
8. In the DNS Server Search Order field put in the following numbers: 209.045.185.5 then click add at the right.
   
   
9. The number will drop to the box below minus one 0.
   
   
10. For Domain Suffix Search Order put in comteck.com and then click add at the right. It will drop to the box below.
    
    
11. Click okay out of TCP/IP, then click okay out of Network.
    
    
12. Your computer will confirm a settings change and ask you to restart your computer.

MAKING THE CONNECTION

1. Click the Windows Start button, choose Programs, then accessories, then click on Dial-up Networking.
   
   
2. If this is the first time in this area you will get a wizard to setup a Dial-up Networking Icon. If a wizard does not appear, double-click on the Make New Connection icon.
   
   
3. The first screen tells you what it is going to do, click next.
   
   
4. This screen is asking for a name, type Comteck in the place of My Connection, then click next.
   
   
5. Enter your local number (example:3845060)
   
   
6. Click finish.
   
   
7. Double-click on the Comteck icon.
   
   
8. In the username field put the user name that you chose with us. Make sure it is in lower case letters, and has no spaces or dots or commas.
   
   
9. In the password field, put in the password that you chose with us, again make sure it is in lower case and has no other characters.
   
   
10. Be sure the Phone number is correct and then click cancel.
    
    
11. Then right click on the Comteck icon.
    
    
12. Then left click properties.
    
    
13. Then left clicks create shortcut. (You will get a message saying Windows cannot create a shortcut here, would you like to have it placed on the desktop instead? Click yes)

Now you are ready to get on the Internet. Just double-click the "Shortcut to Comteck" icon and make sure your username and password are correct and in lower case, then click connect. Once connected you will get an online status saying you are connected, or an icon in the lower right corner of your screen of two computers linked together talking. Then double-click the Internet Explorere icon to broswe the Internet.
